Dhani & Natasha
Dhani and Tash got married at charming rustic venue Bury Court Barn Wedding venue, nestled in the heart of the rolling Hampshire countryside. A June ceremony at the height of summer, the sun bathed our surroundings in a stunning golden light, resulting in some fantastic shots. The couple had a traditional Balinese wedding, a ceremony which is typically characterised by exuberance and vibrancy. Dhani and Tash’s unforgettable day was certainly no exception.
I started off by photographing Tash as she perfected her elegant white bridal saree, in the bridal suite at Bury Court Barn. Once the look had been completed with some finishing touches from Malkia hair and make-up, it was time for the couple to reunite.
We headed to the outdoor gazebo strewn with cascading white roses by Sonning Flowers, providing a tranquil and romantic atmosphere for the Poruwa ceremony. Led by a Kandyan dancer and drummer, the couple ascended the beautifully decorated wooden Poruwa platform and commenced the series of traditional marriage rituals.
It was important to photograph each stage of this intricate ceremony; this included the offering of Betel leaves for good luck, exchanging gifts and, of course, tying the knot. Both fathers tied the bride and groom’s little fingers together before pouring water over them to symbolise the strengthening love and bond between the newly married couple. Then, the string was untangled rather than cut, representing the importance of untangling future problems rather than separating. The ceremony culminated in the couple lighting an oil lamp, signifying their resolve to enjoy a bright future together.
With the ceremony completed, it was time to indulge in some canapes in the garden, courtesy of Indus Catering, whilst guests took it in turns to offer their blessings to the newlyweds – a tradition known as Shagun. We were treated to the serene sounds of The Bristol String Quartet as the wedding breakfast was served, before the much-anticipated speeches from friends and family, which were filled with warmth and humour.
As night fell, the partying began. Guests enjoyed an electrifying performance from traditional Sri Lankan dancers before Dhani and Tash cut into their regal four-tiered wedding cake, decorated with roses and gold foil detailing. The couple enjoyed the all-important first dance together before everyone partied the night away to music from Enigma Roadshow. Finally, the Dholi punjabi tradition was undertaken at the end of the night, as Tash left the venue with Dhani and threw rice/flower petals behind her to signify to her family that she was leaving and would always have food in the home. Close family then gave the newlywed’s car a push start as they drove off into the night.
It was a pleasure from start to finish to capture this wonderful day. Dhani and Tash, I wish you a lifetime of love and happiness together.
